And here is why auto-renewal is not the evil thing to be avoided at all costs that many on this forum seem to profess. 

Now just the wait to see if you went past any ANPR cameras on your day driving uninsured. At least you didnt have an accident in that time as that becomes very expensive when you have to pay it yourself (and bankruptcy explicitly excludes compensation due to others for injuries)
