  • Hi, so I got a car on finance May 2023 a Ford focus (wet belt) car engine went bang in October 2024 and finance was terminated in December (the 2 year one where it’s better for me) but I still owe for the outstanding balance till the 2 year mark, £4,900… when it went bang I didn’t think tbh about section 75 or the fact I used a credit card to pay a deposit, just the dread of owing £11k+

like I said I now owe the finance company £4.9k but remember about the credit card deposit, the car wasn’t fit for purpose (so was faulty) Ford use a wet belt that deteriorates and destroys engines, before the termination I tried to get goodwill from Ford for the new engine they wanted which they wanted £8k for which I didn’t have.. tried to fight the finance company without luck because it had been longer than 6 months…

can section 75 help? Apparently they would’ve paid for an engine? Can they help with the outstanding £4.9k?
No need for S75 against CC. As finance co (depending on type of finance) could also cover S75

But did you get a independent report on the car?
As even then S75 does not cover lack of maintenance etc & car breaking down. Do you have a full service history?

Sorry, but you can hardly say a 4 year old car, which you used for 17 months & did 7K miles in a year is not fit for purpose.

Yet another case of buying a old (4YO) car on long term finance. Then a issue with it breaking down & not being able to afford & then left to still pay the finance.🤷‍♀️
So helpful, can’t all afford new cars… please look into a subject ‘wet belts’ before criticising, car had full service and if anything I over done maintenance when I got it

would a s75 work for a car that is designed with a faulty belt design?

Gosh, this is like getting blood from a stone.

    How old is the car?
What is the recommended replacement age for the belt?
My apologies, 2019 plate car… recommended replacement age 150k miles but cars aren’t even making it 15k miles the wet belt idea is ludicrous
aren’t even making it 15k miles the wet belt idea is ludicrous

What proof do you have for that statement?

Do you have proof that the belt was changed before you bought the car?

US lawsuits and social media UK side, the belts are terribly designed that’s why I’m thinking s75.. belt wasn’t changed as the belt life is apparently 150k miles… I’ve only found out how poorly their designed after it went so the cars are essentially ’not fit for purpose’

There's certainly a design characteristic that can cause problems, but I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest they're not fit for purpose.  I assume the vast majority of ecoboost engines are working just fine.  I don't think you're going to get anywhere on the basis of lawsuits across the Atlantic and social media comments here.

If, in a few years' time, scrapyards are full of wet-belt motors that have failed prematurely, there might be a greater argument, but that doesn't help you now.

    Glad to be helpful.

Never mentioned new cars & know all about wet belts.

Sadly S75 is unlikely to cover this.

    But can you answer.
Has the car full service history, & a report on the failure. which might help.
What type of finance was used, as again that may have S75 cover.
Bank loan will not, but PCP will.
