Faulty car… help

Options
Hi, so I got a car on finance May 2023 a Ford focus (wet belt) car engine went bang in October 2024 and finance was terminated in December (the 2 year one where it’s better for me) but I still owe for the outstanding balance till the 2 year mark, £4,900… when it went bang I didn’t think tbh about section 75 or the fact I used a credit card to pay a deposit, just the dread of owing £11k+

like I said I now owe the finance company £4.9k but remember about the credit card deposit, the car wasn’t fit for purpose (so was faulty) Ford use a wet belt that deteriorates and destroys engines, before the termination I tried to get goodwill from Ford for the new engine they wanted which they wanted £8k for which I didn’t have.. tried to fight the finance company without luck because it had been longer than 6 months…

can section 75 help? Apparently they would’ve paid for an engine? Can they help with the outstanding £4.9k?

Was this a used car purchased in May 2023?
How many miles did you do before failure in October 2024?
What servicing did you do on the car in the time you owned it?

Hi yes used, I brought it on 46k miles gave it a full service then did so 12 months later on 53k miles (well within Fords 18.5k miles/2yr advice)

Gosh, this is like getting blood from a stone.

    How old is the car?
What is the recommended replacement age for the belt?

My apologies, 2019 plate car… recommended replacement age 150k miles but cars aren’t even making it 15k miles the wet belt idea is ludicrous

What outcome are you expecting to get from a S75 claim? You are looking at over £3k for use as a reduction for use.

When you say gave it a service, you mean at a VAT registered garage using OEM specification parts (with the oil type clearly documented)?

Pretty well known these days that if you don't know the history (as in you didn't own it) then 5 years or 50k and if you do know the history then 8 years or 80k as a maximum. Unfortunately not a lot of use to you now.

No need for S75 against CC. As finance co (depending on type of finance) could also cover S75

But did you get a independent report on the car?
As even then S75 does not cover lack of maintenance etc & car breaking down. Do you have a full service history?

Sorry, but you can hardly say a 4 year old car, which you used for 17 months & did 7K miles in a year is not fit for purpose.

Yet another case of buying a old (4YO) car on long term finance. Then a issue with it breaking down & not being able to afford & then left to still pay the finance.🤷‍♀️

What proof do you have for that statement?

Do you have proof that the belt was changed before you bought the car?

It begs the obvious question: Why did you buy a car with a wet belt, then?

I own a second hand wet-belt Ford.  Having done the research, I went for one from a Ford dealer, the car had a main dealer complete service history and I insisted they change the belt before purchase.  Given the potential frailty of the design, those are the only circumstances under which I'd buy a car with the ecoboost engine.  So far, so good.  I'm delighted with the economy, the performance and the torque from what is a only a one litre engine.  It drives like a much larger car, it's a brilliant little engine.

Yea vat registered, oem and oil documented… 3k would still help cut a 4.9k bill
