Our water meter was read in January and the bill calculated. We then received our payment plan for the estimated charges for the next 12 months - the price had increased by £30 per month from £52 to £82 for the Feb 2025 to Jan 2026 payments. Can I ask if the higher direct debit per month includes the increase in water charges from 1st April or is my bill likely to increase even more from April?

Has your usage increased since your meter was last read?

Maybe a little but I wouldn't say £30 a month's worth. Just hoping it doesn't go up any more!!

As I read my meter I know how much I use from year to year (that info should be on your bills, assuming that the meter gets read regularly) and so can work out how much its going to cost and therefore what the DD should be. In the end your guess should be more accurate than their "guestimate"

From that info you should be able to work out how much you use and how much your DD should be - its not complicated. If your sums are different to the Water company then tell them what you should be be paying.

I have this little dance every April but we always agree to use my estimate which is usually pretty close as we've used roughly the same amount every year for the past 15 years

Our UU bill came today and it's gone from £43 to £54 starting next month.

288 litres a day it says, which for 2a 2c, is quite low according to their comparison diagram
