also these people are well know scammers and have left town, the fact that Halifax hasn't contacted the scammer bank to let them know that they are scammers which allows more people to get scammed is crazy to me.
they are going to just go to the next town and scam more people

Do you know that, or are you just speculating? Halifax don't need to tell you what actions they're taking for your father's account (unless you've specifically set that up), let alone what they're doing with other banks.catfriend1985 said:also these people are well know scammers and have left town, the fact that Halifax hasn't contacted the scammer bank to let them know that they are scammers which allows more people to get scammed is crazy to me.

You've got the police and TS involved. Let them get on with it.1 -
The word 'scam' covers a broad range of scenarios, some of which are actually unlawful or illegal activities and others just questionable ethics - if Halifax take the view that the latter end of the scale applies then they have no remit to 'spread the word'.catfriend1985 said:also these people are well know scammers and have left town, the fact that Halifax hasn't contacted the scammer bank to let them know that they are scammers which allows more people to get scammed is crazy to me.

If the police know what they are doing. Then it is up to them to chase it. They can ask bank to take action. So long as they have proof.Life in the slow lane0 -
both myself and my sister are worried that he's going to get caught out again. we are also worried about he's metal health as he's not been sleeping and looks like he's lost a lot of weight since the 17thAylesbury_Duck said:
I'd seriously consider whether your father should have access to internet banking. If he's unable to draft a complaint letter, is it reasonable to assume he may make errors with online banking? I'm not talking specifically about the rogue trader situation, but more general errors he could make.catfriend1985 said:
I've gone through the formal complaints procedure and have a reference number which was done today. So nest step is to wait 5 days for a result. so if we aren't happy with the outcome we should contact the financial ombudsman?lisyloo said:@catfriend - you say you've "tried" to make a complaint.
Have you (or your dad) gone through the formal complaints procedure? this should give you access to the financial ombudsman service at some point.
Is your dad recorded as vulnerable with them?
The complaint might have to come from your dad but you can of course draft it for him.
he wasn't recorded as vulnerable. i asked Halifax that if a payment is over £500 they should ring him.
I'll have to draft the complaint for my dad as he is unable to do so.
thank you
Putting the £500 limit is a good step, but realistically, had they rung him each time he made one of the payments to the rogue roofer, what would he have said? Please go ahead, no doubt.
when starling rang me about my transfer to chase. they asked a lot of questions and made sure it wasn't a scam. I'm in my 30's. Halifax didn't do the same with my dad and he's pushing on 80

Does anybody have power of attorney for him?0
-
You need to discuss power of attorney or at least agree with him a formal 3rd party arrangement with the bank.
I always put large purchases at least partially on a credit card as then the credit card company are jointly liable (not for poor judgment).
I did EPA when I was 29 years old (it's now called LPA) to make things easier for my husband.
Haven't used it for several decades but you need these things already in place before you need to use them.0
