My MIL(Pensioner) has just cancelled her Now TV, the contract ended and the new price was to going to be nearly double, in the 18 months that the MIL was with them, she never watched any of the Now TV, she never watches Netflix or Amazon, does not use a Laptop or any other items that connected to the internet, the MIL only uses the internet is for Catch up TV like  My5.

I have been looking to set up some sort of Mifi device with monthly sim, just not sure if this is the cheapest or the best way to go,

Anyone done this or know of any alternative, Mil lives in an OAP complex, I know Three (3) says it does not cover her area but EE does an ok job inside.

She does not qualify for any benefits so is unable to claim for cheaper pensioner deals

Firstly I'd sit in her lounge with your phone and do a speedtest with your wifi switched off (i.e. to test the speed of the 4g/5g).  If it comes out at less than ~6mb/sec then I'd not pursue a SIm card router option.  or at least try it and be prepared to return it if the speed isn't up to scratch.  I have tried one of these before (many moons ago) and it worked ok but it's entirely dependant on the signal strength in the area and especially indoors.

For watching catch-up TV which is usually only in SD or 1080p at best, you should be able to get a contract for £18/month or cheaper.  Go onto the broadband comparison tool and see what companies are offering.  You'd only need up to about 15mb/sec speed
