Beware Ryanair on board purchases

All purchases made on Ryanair flights are now pay by card only and are being automatically charged in pounds sterling despite onboard prices being listed in Euros. Make sure when you pay that you insist on paying in Euros. You will get a much better exchange rate from your bank than from Ryanair.
Be especially careful that you insist on paying in euros if you are using a euro card

On a recent trip using a euro bank card I was charged €4.61 for a cup of coffee costing €3.50. They converted my euro payment to sterling and then back to euros. I was also charged for the exchange transaction by my Spanish bank.

Sounds like something odd with your bank, I've always been charged in Euros when flying with Ryanair, without exception.0

I don't think it's a general policy, I've had it both ways on flights this month, once they asked what currency and once they said the GBP amount and I said "in Euros please" and they changed it.0

So if the staff assume you want to pay in GBP, and you pay with a EUR account card, it'll charge your EUR account in GBP and then the bank will convert it back to EUR. So you suffer Ryanair's conversion markup plus your bank's conversion markup.
On the plus side the Lavazza coffee they serve in the filter cups is the best coffee I've had on any airline!0 -
Could it be dependant upon which RyanAir subsidiary you are flying on?Ryanair U.K. with flight prefix RF, bars set up and charged in GBP£. Ryanair DAC with flight prefix FR, bars set up and charged in EUR€.1

Sorry, RK rather than RF for RyanAir U.K.
Easyjet, under their U.K. AOC, with EZY flight prefixes charge on board sales in GBP£. EasyJet Europe, under their Austrian AOC, with EJU flight prefix charge in EUR€. Have yet to fly on EasyJet Swiss (EZS) but would half expect pricing in SFR.0
