Just a small update.  I received a welcome e-mail even though I'm with British Gas already, including a new account number A********. I currently had account numbers for each gas and electricity.  Second e-mail to submit meter readings, which I did.

I rang British Gas to speak to someone regarding Tariffs and I explained what I did, the British Gas Rep said she could see it on my account, and after 2 days - 29 March 25, everything should be sorted online.

Just have to wait and see now, so far so good. :-)
Third update.  On Sunday, I received a bill for my old British Gas account, the Gas was PAYG so no bill, but the Electricity I was charged an extra £50, as if I had switched supplier when going on the V49 dual fuel tariff via MSE.

I rang British Gas earlier today, and got directly through to retentions - a good thing! lol.  I explained what happend, and they reversed the charge as it was a system error by switching to the dual fuel system, there's actually two different British Gas apps in Google Play Store btw.

I also said, I may as well just reverse the new tariff and switch to Octopus as they would give my £50 cashback + extra £25 by gift card nulifying the British Gas charge.  The nice lady in retentions spoke to her manager, and I was offered an additional £100 to stay with my new V49 tariff which I've accepted.  My bill was automatically changed.

So £50 fee error removed and +£100 credited to my account, very happy. :)

Great customer service so far with British Gas and actually since I initially joined in November.

I've been looking at this.  I also have the issue that I already have British Gas (my tariff Fixed Tariff 14M v1 expires 24th August 2025) so can't see a comparison.

What is the current advice as at 1 April 2025 about doing a comparison with British Gas Fixed Tariff v49?  Does British Gas Fixed Tariff v49 have any advantages over Fixed Tariff v51 which British Gas are offering me on my own British Gas login?  Should I grab v51 (also a 16 month fix) while I can?    The Unit rate for gas and electricity is slightly more than what I am paying now, the total of the two standing charges is approx as now.  Honestly the £35 cash back is not an issue, my energy bills in my large and rambling old house (cheap to buy, expensive to run) are massive so £35 is a drop in a bucket.

Should I expect that available fixed tariffs will increase in price over the summer and that therefore grabbing now is the prudent option even though I have 5 months to go?

Another option offered by British Gas is The Longer Fix v30, a 24 month tariff.

I've just quickly read through this article
    https://www.standard.co.uk/homesandproperty/property-news/energy-price-cap-increase-too-late-to-fix-tariff-b1219888.html
and in addition to quoting Martin Lewis it also refers to Matthew Sheeran, advisor at Money Wellness as saying that "Current forecasts suggest that the price cap could drop by around £137 a year from July, which means fixing now might not be the cheapest option in the long run".

Both of the current offers from British Gas (Fixed Tariff v51 and The Longer Fix v30) are below the current price cap (if I'm not mistaken), so it might seem feasible to an unknowledgeable person like me that if the price cap drops in July, these offers may be have been replaced by lower ones when July comes round.  And since my current even lower fixed tariff will still be in place until 24 August, presumably it would be wise to just wait till then?
