BA Flight Cancellation- can I claim

On Tuesday 25th of March2025 I was due to depart from Milan Linate airport at 11:20. When the time came to board the flight was cancelled. At the time we were told it was a tech issue. We were bussed back to baggage claim to collect our bags. Then told to head to check in where we would be helped to rebook flights. We were lucky and received a text from BA offering a new flight on the next flight out of LIN airport at 14:10. This was delayed (We were told due to fog). We finally departed at 16:08. Landing back into Heathrow at 16:34. (We should have originally got back into Heathrow at 12:30.

I hope this makes sense, I’m just unsure if we were able to claim regarding the cancelled flight and late arrival. Luckily I travel multiple times a year and thankfully to date have never had a delay or cancellation.

If the original cancellation was due to an issue within the airline's control (technical problem would qualify) then they can only decline compensation if they rebook you onto a flight allowing the passenger "to reach their final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival", under articles 5.1(c)(iii) and 7.2(a):
