Amazon seller refuses to pay return postage

I bought a rotating composter from an Amazon seller and a part of it had not been manufactured properly. It was impossible to put it together and use it. I returned it saying there was a manufacturing fault and it couldn't be used. The seller has issued a refund for the cost of the item, but refused to pay return postage. I have reported the seller to Amazon but I haven't heard anything yet. Is it a legal requirement for the seller to pay return costs where the item is faulty? I tried looking for the answer on Google but the results were ambiguous.

Hello OP
Usually you go through the Amazon process for a return and AFAIK the seller has to provide a label/arrange collection.
If you've not used this then yes the seller should cover the costs but it's a matter of enforcing it, do you have a link to the item so we can see where the seller is based?
If you did use the Amazon return process I'd politely bug CS to see if you can squeeze a voucher out them.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
This is the item I ordered. It is covered by the Amazon A to Z guarantee. I used the link to return the item as faulty. I was given a return label which said postage had to be paid. I put in the notes that there was a manufacturing fault and it couldn't be used. I contacted the seller to say that there was a fault with the item and that I would need a refund of postage as well as the cost of purchase. The seller issued a refund and said I'd cancelled the order. They are trying to get out of their legal obligation to refund the postage. This is the item. The seller is Denny Shop and they are located in the UK.

I found my way to the Amazon customer services page where I was able to chat to an agent via their chatbox. Amazon have issued a refund for the postage under their A to Z guarantee. If anyone is buying from Amazon and has to pay to send a faulty item back, make sure you get a receipt for the cost of the return. Amazon needed to see proof before they could process the refund. You only need to take a photo of the receipt and upload it.
