On PIP, told to apply for UC

Hi - a family friend is on PIP, but has been informed by post that they must now apply for UC to continue their benefit receipt (made up of ESA & HB). The letter doesn't say "why" this must be done. Do I advise they just complete the application? Any implications to be aware of?

Legacy benefits such as ESA and Housing Benefit are ending, and are being replaced by Universal Credit. If they wish to continue to receive support, they must make a claim for Universal Credit, as advised in the letter. This process is known as Managed Migration. The main implication is that if they do not make a claim for UC by the deadline date given in the letter, their Housing Benefit and possibly their ESA (depending if it's conts based or income based) will end.Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter3
