Post Office ISAs

  • Just spotted this thread when coming on to see if others had problems with Post Office ISA. I already mentioned them a couple of months ago in the general "Cash ISAs Best Currently Available" thread. Just after the new ISA year started I had opened their online ISA as well as a Skipton one. I was so unimpressed with the general archaic and rubbish experience of the Post Office ISA system (the website, the fact that you had to pay by debit card or send a CHEQUE! - the dayslong wait for my initial £500 to show as credited) that I decided against putting more cash in there. I should have cancelled during the 14 days cooling-off period but alas, I thought it would be more straightforward to just transfer my £500 out again. I started a transfer to Skipton and on 22nd April I got a notification of this from the Post Office ISA side. On 24th April the Post Office notified me that my ISA account was closed. By 19th May nothing had happened. I called Skipton who said that the transfer still seemed to be in progress. On 26th May I went on holiday for a couple of weeks. Got back at the weekend to a letter from Skipton (dated 20th May but obvs did not arrive until after 26th May) telling me that a CHEQUE (!) had been rejected - reason, it was stopped by the other bank. !!!!!!?

Now trying to chase Post Office ISA for my missing £500. My online account with them was, as I say, closed by them on 24th April and after 30 days you can't access it any more. So I can't go onto my online PO ISA account and send a secure message - or check that the money is back there. Just managed to get through on the phone to the Post Office but the Customer Service rep told me that "there's very little info about the transfer" on their files. Waiting to hear back from the Post Office ISA team. Just glad I didn't deposit more money with them, but concerned about getting my £500 out of there...
