Hi Hope someone can assist, we booked a Package Holiday to Amsterdam for My Daughters 21st Birthday, we were due to fly out of Heathrow Early on Friday morning, however the whole airport was shut down due to a fire, the company have said i need to wait for any refund, but is there any compensation route as we book new flights that day from Southampton airport and lost a whole day because of it?

I don't believe that any compensation would be due - the flight delay/cancellation regulations won't require it when the root cause was beyond the airline's control, and any truncation rights under the package travel regulations would only kick in if the number of nights was reduced ....

    No.
This was out of their control and classed as "extraordinary circumstances" so no compensation.

Think you’re confusing “compensation” with a “refund.”

You will get a refund, but lastminute have more customers than just yourself so all you can do is wait.

Did you get LastMinute or the airline to rebook you?  If so, then they should have taken care of paying for the replacement flight, but if not and you booked it yourself, then they still ought to reimburse you but you may find some resistance, depending on the degree to which they offered self-booking as an option when notifying you of the cancellation and on how reasonable the alternative was.

You had the choice between a refund or re-routing... in theory, you can ask the airline to book you onto a different flight (if at all possible on the same day) rather than getting a refund. In practice, if you cannot communicate with the airline and they do not offer a reasonable alternative, you can simply book another flight for yourself and claim the cost back from the airline. However, you lose this possibility if you accept a refund.
