I have a leaking tyre valve so looking on the Halfords website they offer a TPMS valve service through National Tyres.

The cost of the TPMS Valve Service is £5.99

Does this include a replacement valve?

The what’s included description states a replacement service. The replacement service part of the TPMS service?

Thanks

No, a replacement sensor valve would be £££££.

They will change the core, any rubber washers, and if your valve is all rubber, then they will fit a new valve.

Seems suspiciously cheap unless it is an extra when you have new tyres fitted by them, although you can change a rubber valve with the wheel on the car easily enough, they would have to take the tyre off the rim to do any work on the parts inside the tyre, and there won't be much profit in it at £5.99

    Sensor is working fine.

Valve sprayed with soapy water and bubble show at the base of the valve.

    From that Halfords page...

So, yeh, it's a £6 extra when you're having a new tyre on. No new TPMS sensor, but new valve core etc (or just a £6 single screw...)

    "When should I book?

It is recommended that whenever tyres are changed on TPMS fitted wheels, that the sealing and fixing components are replaced, which will prolong the life of the valve components.

The charge is made per wheel.

    What is included?

There are two types of TPMS valve; a 'snap in' or a 'clamp in'. Our replacement service provides new hardware from one of these two kits, depending on the make, model and year of your vehicle. For 'snap in' valve stems, we replace:Locking NutLocating WasherValve StemValve CoreValve CapFor 'clamp in' valve stems, we replace:Securing screw"

Buy a pack of 4 valve cores and a valve tool and do it yourself for a lot less.

    One like this?

I imagine that there is a rubber sealing washer on the inside between the sensor and the wheel. A shiny 10p piece says the leak is due to alloy corrosion lifting the seal on the inside.

I'd take the wheel off, knock that side of the tyre off the rim, push it into the well, undo the nut on the valve stem and drop the sensor/valve inwards, clean up the hole, replace the seal, soap the tyre, inflate and replace the wheel. Halfords won't do that for a fiver I'm sure. (no balance required as the tyre hasn't moved.)

I suspect the £5 is the extra that they charge per wheel on top when they are fitting new tyres already.Seems reasonable then, but it obviously adds £20 to the price of a set of tyres.

By all means try them, £5 will be a bargain!

    I don't think it's the core itself that's leaking.

A little more to the story.

The same tyre has been losing pressure for over a year.
Last week I had the tyre replaced by Formula One but it has continued to lose pressure in the same way.
I presumed that they had replaced the valve as this was stated on their website when I ordered the replacement tyre.

I attach a photo of the said valve. I might be wrong but it doesn’t look like they’ve replaced the valve.

That doesn't look like a TPMS valve at all.
It look to be an old standard rubber valve - but perhaps with a new cap on it.
The tyre monitoring might well be from the ABS system on your car and not from TPMS valves.
Are all the other valves rubber too - and does your TPMS system work?
