Ev charger

Hi all I'm currently living in rented accommodation with a housing association, I had an ev charger fitted a few years ago at my expense with the landlords written permission.

I'm now purchasing a property, can I take the charger with me or not?

Thank you

You would probably need the HAs permission to remove it, but frankly I would leave it and get a new one installed rather than go to all the trouble of have the existing one decommissioned and reinstalled especially is it is well out of warrantee.

Only the HA can tell you what you need to do.

The chargers themselves are not very expensive, they just appear to cost a lot because of the installation work. I also suspect that no electrician is going to be willing to install an old charger and the cost saving is not going to be much anyway. I agree with KP, get a new one installed once you have moved.

If i had paid to have if fitted, and its worth taking, I would remove and remedy any mess caused.

I’d check if you can find an electrician prepared to instal it in your new place, otherwise what are you going to do with it? A second hand charged that’s a couple of years old is probably worth £200 max, maybe a bit more if it’s a smart charger like ohme or zappi.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I think I will approach the HA when I give notice, they will probably say i need to leave it behind.

Was anything agreed - other than 'you have permission to install one' - at the time? If not, the charger is yours, and you can take it. Have you screwed a cabinet to the bathroom wall inside, or a TV to the sitting room wall? If so, do they now belong to the house? No.
However, you'll be expected to make good any damage, such as - I presume - the cable exit point and some screw holes. Ask the supplier of that charger if they have covers for this job. If they do, great. If not, then what do you propose instead? How much 'damage' was created during the install?
Then it's your call - if you really want the charger, and don't want a potential prolonged 'discussion' over its removal, then make it a fait-accompli - remove and cover.
What's the worst that could happen?

    How can you edit posts?
I was going to add to be 100% certain it is worth removing, for the potential hassle and probable annoyance.

Depends what the "landlords written permission" says.  Don't seem to be able to read it.
