Eon smart meter with E10

Hello
Eon want me to have a smart meter.
last time they changed my meter we ended up with the ombudsman as they took me off E10 … which after a year was resolved and compensation given and meter fixed.
I’m concerned about getting a smart meter in case it leads to a move to E7 again.
Anyone has experience of swapping to a smart meter with Eon for Economy 10 that worked well?

Although technically it is possible to have E10 with a smart meter, it is a legacy tariff which I don’t think any supplier is supplying as a smart tariff, so I think the answer to your question is yes they will move you to E7 if you get the meter changed out.

Not EON, but Rosie1001 has just (this week) had a smart meter installed by EDF and has E10.
Someone (Scot_39 perhaps?) has been keeping an eye on E10 suppliers and might recall it EON offer it on smart meters.

    2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 33MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.
Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.

I had to really push to get my eco 10 …. I ended up going through complaints procedure to get it …I’m not sure it’s readily offered

Worth  a phone call though to check

Do I have to have a smart meter or can you say no?

What reason have EON given for asking to replace it?
If your current meter has reached the end of its certified life, or if it's an RTS meter, or if it's damaged or faulty, then yes it has to be replaced and it will be replaced by a smart meter.

They’ve given no reason. The meter is about 7 years old I think, works fine. Just keep writing and leaving messages.

Check your meter's lifetime.  If it's not close to its expiry date, tell E.On to stop pestering you and raise a formal complaint if they don't.

Do you have a right to continue on your existing tariff if you change your meter?  I know many suppliers are unwilling for that to happen with E10 but can they legitimately insist?

Column C shows the certification period in years.  You meter should have a sticker or marking on it showing its certification date, e.g. 'Certified 10/18' would mean it was certified in October 2018 and would be good until 31 Oct 2028.
