Sky broadband cancellation cost.

I am mid contract with Sky and have just been notified of an above inflation price hike. Now I understood from Martin that in this case I could leave without any cancellation charge. Sky tell me that this is not the case so can anybody advise what the legal position is.

Sky do allow you to cancel BB without charges, but if you have a TV package cancellation charges will apply on that.

The notification of price increase for broadband should indicate how to effectively reject their changes to the T&C’s and quit penalty free , however often you have to use a specific method, and within a short timeframe to get this penalty free exit …..if someone has more than one product from Sky ( so more than just broadband ) may complicate things if the bill is combined to show TV , broadband , phone , mobile or whatever on the same bill

I received the letter this week which told me about the price increase and also stated I could leave without an early termination charge if I notified Sky within 30 days of getting the letter.

Phoned them yesterday to cancel. They offered a 'deal' of continuing with my current price which I rejected so asked to cancel but was told there would be a charge if I did. When I told them about the letter, they said "oh ok" and cancelled my service as of 4th April.

I have TV as well but not changing that.

Unless you don't want broadband anymore, you should never cancel. With these mid contract price rises it's enough to tell them, "sorry no, I'm going to switch to a newand they will be in touch"

Cancelling means: send an engineer to unplug the equipment at the exchange (or whatever virtual equivalent there is now).
