Sold a car privately

Hi advice please I sold a car in good working order sold as seen and test drive and reduced price by £500 the buyer had travelled 3 hours to buy it and now 8 days later has got in touch to say there has been issues and the car is not road worthy and sent a quote from a garage saying needs over £2k in repairs. Car driven back up north 3 hours when purchased and then back down taken to a garage 20 miles from me! ???
I was driving the car up to date of sale with no issues and the car had been health checked and recently mot'd prior to selling.
Now wants to return the car (which has probably been ragged about) or for me to pay repairs.

Advice please

  • Hi Thank you
He has not responded since I replied to say about the health check it went through and was driving fine at test drive and the drive up north and I asked if he had a diagnostic report and question why he drove car back to a garage 20 miles away.
I think I'm worried he's going to turn up at my door mob handed. Will block him and next time We buy any car  I think.

Don’t reply to him for anything.
Don’t text, call, email, nothing at all.

He may be genuine, in which case it’s his bad luck.

More likely he is chancing his luck. Buy identical car to his, swap bits over, say yours is faulty.

    No communication is best strategy.

If he turns up, tell him to jog on.

He's banking on scaring you - just like the Campervan story which I remember vividly.
There's some horrible people out there.
It also seems to be a thing these days with houses and motors. There's even 'how to's' on the net.
    Do you have a link?
