Seller not responding to emails

Hello,

I recently ordered a dress on ‘the Cottagecore’ website.
I went back on the webpage the next day to look at it again and it came up with a ‘404 page not found’ message.
I emailed the seller to find out what was going on. They replied saying that the dress was sold out and they didn’t have enough material left to make that dress. They asked me to choose another one.

First I checked to see if I could fit the size S instead of M (as they said they could make it in that size), but the measurements were too small. So I chose another dress and emailed the details of that one to them.
I sent that email on 18th March and now 2 days have gone by without any reply. I started to feel suspicious so I looked the company up online and found negative reviews, with other people saying that the shop isn’t replying to them.

Today I emailed them twice requesting a refund (the cost was $59.99), but still no response.
I am worried it is some kind of scam.
Can anyone advise me what to do now? I can’t find any other way of contacting them, and the company is based in Hong Kong apparently.

Thank you so much

You mention the cost in dollars, are you in the UK, and if so how did you pay?

Just had a look at what I think is their website, looks very worrying. Refund/return policy is obviously generic as they talk about different products, none of which apply to the site. Buyers have to return items at their own cost - and as is usual for these sites it's not worth doing that anyway as nothing ever shows as delivered.

Hopefully you paid safely, if so I would imemdiately email and ask for a full refund, if that gets no response, try again but give them a time frame, refuse any other options- refund or nothing. If that fails hopefully you used a credit card and can charge it back.

I certainly wouldn't entertain any alternative at all, it is unlikely to look anything like the photos on the site- and would concentrate on just getting a refund.

They say the legal jurisdiction for the contract is China, if they were based in HK you'd expect it to say there instead.

Guessing you are in the US despite posting on a UK forum?

Speak to your card issuer about a chargeback unless you paid by PayPal in which case raise a dispute with them for non-delivery.

International websites very commonly use USD, so unless the OP clarifies, we can't know whether they're in the US or UK based on that.

    Hi there,
thank you for your replies. I am in the UK, it must have converted the currency when I paid as it shows up as £47.76 on my banking app.
I just filled in my card details and paid that way.

I’ve already emailed 3 times requesting a refund, providing the full order details. It says on the website that you can ‘submit a cancellation request anytime before the order is shipped out.’ So according to their policy I am completely justified in cancelling, but I guess if it’s a scam they’ll just ignore my emails.
I told them I needed a response by the end of today, but still nothing.

I paid with a debit card, not a credit card, so I’m guessing I can’t charge it back? I will call the card issuer and see what they say.

    Thank you

I have just checked and I can open a dispute with my card issuer, but I have to give the seller 14 days to respond.
so frustrating but I guess I have no choice.
