Had to take 2 days off of work, crippling migraine kicked in on Thursday night, went in briefly yesterday morning but had to come home as alongside the pain in my head my neck and back were extremely painful and I'd barely slept due to the pain. Thankfully it's all just starting to ease off now.

Tinkered around with next months budget in my spare free time today and worked out that just a £46 overpayment gets my debt total (barely) under £8k and I'll be able to pay off the remaining balances of my two smallest accounts. One is due to run it's course with a final payment at the end of the month anyway, so it'll be 3 accounts gone in total :)

I have to renew my passport when I get paid at the end of the month as I can't put it off any longer, I also need to look at some secondhand sofa's as the one I got (secondhand) when I moved into this house is a sofa bed which seemed like a fab idea but in all reality the cushion is too thin and dips down into the bend of the slats of the bed part which is extremely uncomfortable and I wake up with aches if I accidentally doze off. I've tried padding cushions underneath but it doesn't seem to really help and means the sofa cushion doesn't tuck under the back cushion like it's supposed to. It's much better suited as a spare room sofa-bed for someone than my main sofa. I'll list it on Marketplace nearer the end of the month and hopefully shouldn't be much out of pocket for another one. I plan to pop into BHF when I've been paid as they had a lot of nice ones when I got this one. I am open to other suggestions of trying to make it more useable if anyone has any ideas!

  • Just popping on whilst I have a spare five minutes, feeling back to 100% now thankfully so will be back at work today in an hour or so :)

Made a little to-do list last night before bed, split into 'Things to do for the house' & 'Things to do for me' and bundled together what I could  :D

    For the house:
    - Do all of the washing up - done
    - Flush all the toilets (I have three and only really use one, I need to be more on top of making sure all the water gets run through the the other toilets and sinks) - will do in about 5 minutes
    - Make chilli - done
    - Take rubbish out - will do as I leave for work

    For me:
    - Hair mask (whilst washing up/cooking) - done
    - Tint eyebrows (whilst pottering around doing the toilets etc) - will do in a minute
    - Take multi-vit (this will have to wait until I have my main meal at work)

I find it easier to stack together what jobs I can, otherwise it feels like 'just' housework and no me-time :)

Still not much to report, counting down the days until payday!
Rent & arrears payment went out today. Set up my Natwest account for online banking & app and opened one of their savers, this will be where my EF money will go when I finally have some money to pay into it :)

I have a very detailed spreadsheet with a 'Front Page' tab that outlines my salary, what my base take-home should be, hourly rates for overtime depending on weekend shifts, overnight shifts etc and I've now added on which accounts various savings will go into further down the line.

My savings for spending money for holiday & a camping trip this year will go into Monzo savings pots.
Christmas & car insurance for next year (hopefully it'll finally be the year I can pay it in full, not monthly!!) in locked Zopa pots that you have to give notice to get the money out.
Car sinking funds and planned expenses each month which go into their own pots in my Chase account.

That's alongside my usual Monzo pots/virtual cards for Food, Fuel, Pocket Money & Buffer account. I find these very helpful as I can just tap the card for each pot when I spend from it, so I can see what I've spent on each and how much is left in each one.

It looks a lot more complicated than it actually is written down, but it's mostly to help with 'out of sight, out of mind' for money I'm setting aside and making sure I don't dip into my Christmas & Car Insurance savings pots.

28 days gambling free, I don't get the 'itch' anymore but equally grateful I couldn't access any sites even if I did want to. I feel a lot calmer and in control. I do think a lot of the not wanting to came from opening up to people about it - it's good to talk!

I have a few hours overtime tonight, and a shift on Good Friday which will be double time and TOIL back :) then the rest of the weekend off to hopefully catch up with family :)

28 days gamble free is fantastic. Well done.

You sound super organised with your pots, that's something personally I find a massive help for making payments and a motivation for saving.

    Have a lovely weekend

    Hi

I Have just created some pots in Monzo and was wondering the best way to move it around when needed, can I ask how you spend from each pot by tapping card?

How do you tell it what pot you need to spend from?
It all sounds a lot more simple than the way I was going to do it (transfer to main Monzo whilst I am in petrol station etc)

thank you in advance and congrats on progress so far!

Hi! I have a Monzo perks account which is £7pm which isn't exactly money-saving in itself, but it allows you to set up separate pots that you can then add a virtual card to if you want. So when you use that card (mine are on Apple Pay) then it just comes straight out of the pot it's linked to and it has its own little list of transactions inside that pot. There's other perks too like railcard discounts, free Greggs treat once a week etc. I'm happy paying the monthly fee just to be able to keep my money so separate it makes it so much easier for me, but not everyone will want to pay it which is understandable :)
