Hi does anyone know if claiming ESA support group , PIP daily living component and UC how this will affect my council tax payments ? I already get a 25% reduction for being a single occupant and I own my own home
I also have to pay service charges on my mortgaged home and don’t know if I can claim help with this without claiming SMI
Thankyou in advance

CRT for working age people isn't consistent as councils can decide how much discount within certain parameters in England. My previous English council gave full discount for a single person in the SG. Not all councils seem to publish their discounts on line. But is saying that you should get a much more than just a 25% single discount. If you want to name your council we can try and find the discount.ET22 said:Hi does anyone know if claiming ESA support group , PIP daily living component and UC how this will affect my council tax payments ? With a service charge it would be UC as it's part of the Housing Element.

Thanks @HillStreetBlues. I’m going to contact the council or dig a bit deeper on their website. It seems a bit unfair if it’s council by council so to speak. I will contact UC about the service charges so hopefully I will get some contribution towards them. Atm, I am not going to claim SMI but I may change my mind in the future. The length of time it has taken to get the work capacity assessment and an outcome has been 5 months and I have had to pay some of my council tax during this time. Hopefully my Coincil will not increase the amount I have to pay because I’m awarded UCCurrent debt approximately 5000

As long as you don't get Carers Allowance you should be paying the same..I found out the hard way when I migrated to UC and suddenly had to pay 50% CT instead of 25%. Something to consider in future for anyone considering claiming CA especially since on UC there is no financial benefit. Carers Allowance is treated as income.2

But you do get class 1 NI contributions on carers so swings and roundabouts.kkkklinky said:As long as you don't get Carers Allowance you should be paying the same..I found out the hard way when I migrated to UC and suddenly had to pay 50% CT instead of 25%. But you get a allowance under UC. So you end up in exactly the same position.ET22 said:I dont get carers allowance, but It doesnt seem fair carers allowance is treated as incomeLife in the slow lane1 -
CA and CE under UC can be treated differently by councils for CTRborn_again said:

I remember a thread on here that a council didn't class CA as income but when claiming CE it was treated as income.

Luckily I only have to pay a small amount of council tax according to the adjustment notice i was sent, around 30 pounds pm as opposed to the full amount of over 1500 ( liable as a single occupier with the 25% discount) so yes it does seem to vary a lot from council to councilCurrent debt approximately 5000
