As long as they are not leaking they will pass an MOT even if they are totally shot and completely ineffective.
    Good luck.
I didn't know that I thought they would be checked when it was MOT'd and serviced.

I have never heard of replacing shock absorbers  in any manufacturer's service schedule.

Never as part of the MOT and only on the service unless you told them of the potential issue as suggested by people.

They are mechanics not magicians and mind readers. You need to point out issues to be investigated.

There was mention of various parts of underside corroded and Nearside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened.

I think my car is rusting away, time for a new one next year I think
If they replaced the track control arm that's just a metal pressing.

What does it actually list on the bill?

I often see cars with weak dampers on the road.  After every little bump in the road they go on bouncing for a few seconds.

Like I said earlier in the thread...

MOT doesn't check effectiveness of dampers, only looks for leaks and worn bushes.
A typical "service it when you MOT it" maintenance regime won't do much beyond oil and filter and anything it fails on.

So, no, there's no great surprise it came back with the rear dampers just as knackered as when it went in.

£90 each, and quick and easy to fit. Hour's labour for the pair. DO THEM AS A PAIR.

You can do a simple check while the car is parked up...
Bounce each corner & see how many times it takes to settle down. Anymore than one & shocks are in need of replacement.
