Shop Won't Pay for Sold Goods

Hi,
I sold an item through a shop, agreeing to their commission charge. I received their written receipt for the goods to be sold. This I have in hard copy.
The item was sold, I was informed by telephone, & the amount due to me confirmed at the same time, just under 1K.
My bank account number + sort code were duly requested, and supplied.
After a slight delay, the payment was promised by early this March - the payment did not appear.
I again contacted the shop and was told the payment was being processed today, but that's what I was told two weeks ago. No explanation or apology for the delay in payment was given by the shop.
Where do I stand, legally, with regard to getting paid for my sold goods, please?
Many thanks.

Seems pretty clear that you have a written contract, confirmation they've sold the item and a promise of payment. Send them a letter before action, threatening small claims court if they don't send you the funds within 14 days. Then follow up on it if they don't comply.1

Is the shop a limited company? If so I would be checking companies house to check if anything looks untoward.

Thanks. Can they do that ~ I'm wondering why they asked me for my account number & sort code - they know I carry a bank card?born_again said:

Because they physically need the card to process a refund? Given you were on the phone to them.kr236rk said:

Anything in red should be treated with suspicion, having said many well known and sound companies will have red markers . Check their fillings and charges against the company (many charges are legitimate though eg loans)kr236rk said:
Yes thanks, they are a limited company - anything in particular that I should be looking for, please?Arunmor said:Is the shop a limited company? If so I would be checking companies house to check if anything looks untoward.

If I do have to go 'small claims', will that be expensive please?
Been advised to give them til next week. Hope this is not going to turn unpleasant 🙏0 -
Not really, I had been in the shop when the amount was due - all I got was excuses. When I spoke to them this week, they did not suggest I come over with my card, just went on about 'sorting out their accounts' until the payment could be made. I am 30 minutes away from them, local business. I simply cannot understand what they are playing at?born_again said:

Assuming your claim would be for something between £500 and £1000, the court fee is £70. There is no need to pay for legal advice, you can DIY.kr236rk said:If I do have to go 'small claims', will that be expensive please?
