edited 18 March at 10:08AM in Flight delay compensation
I have already made a claim for a delayed flight. I would appreciate some help on reimbursement for third party travel/hotel disruption. I booked a flight to Chicago with an ongoing internal flight the next day. In between I had overnight accommodation booked. My flight to Chicago was delayed by 18 hours, I was consequently charged for the room as a no show. I missed my ongoing flight, needing to book another.

I have been left £300 out of pocket. My insurance provider suggested I reach out to the airlines and hotel for recompense. It is only Aer Lingus at fault, however; I have read that the onus is not on them to reimburse any expenses Incurred beyond providing meals, accommodation etc, which they duly did.

Is my only option to make a plea to the airline and hope for a goodwill gesture?
I am due to return to the same destination in the near future and will likely book with Aer Lingus again as they remain the least expensive option. My intention is to wait for the flight delay compensation (I keep receiving standard “sorry for the delay, we are handling your claim”) and then take up the recuperation  with them and hope for something.

I don’t think  I have any legal right, as is the case with delay compensation, but I’m hoping I might receive some tips on what do from the forum

I hope that a Mod will move this to the correct board.

You were entitled to "care" during the delay, which I think you received. Depending on the reason for the delay, you might also be entitled to a fixed sum as compensation. If the airline is not processing your compensation claim within a reasonable time-frame you could of course begin legal action.

As for anything further, you can write requesting a gesture of good-will: if you are really lucky they might give you some frequent flyer points.

Check your insurance policy carefully, since the advice to contact the airline sounds like fobbing you off.

Was this a single ticket booking?  Or a ticket to Chicago with a separate internal flight booking?
