An interesting geographical concept - have you considered looking at a map, or haven't you got as far as even the very basics of planning this trip yet?GringoGoesToVagas said:
Yes but I was thinking that the distance on the boat would be far far lesseskbanker said:Iquitos is over 1000km from Lima, i.e. further than Lands End to John O'Groats, to put it in the context of UK distances!
Google Flights will be somewhere to start your search....2 -
Decent prices at the moment for London to Lima, Virgin Atlantic doing some offers via USA with the USA to Peru on a codeshare with Latam, booked yesterday. I was using Skyscanner to check prices, you can do that with the different destinations.GringoGoesToVagas said:
Do you know where to start this search from please? Anyone traveled this and if so can you not buy tickets when there (would be cheaper)? and no one been by boat?RAS said:
There are several local airlines offering Lima to Iquitos flights, with limited price difference, so fix the Europe to Lima part first?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
How much did you get the price down for/paid for if you dont mind me asking?jimjames said:Decent prices at the moment for London to Lima, Virgin Atlantic doing some offers via USA with the USA to Peru on a codeshare with Latam, booked yesterday. This is a reputable and long-established travel agent (I used them for my first trip to South America back in 1994):

A first step would be a conversation with them, and then consider buying a guidebook (or borrow one from your local public library).1 -

The extra £300 to avoid US immigration queues would be a bargain.1 -
Did they do packaged holidays or flights only?Voyager2002 said:This is a reputable and long-established travel agent (I used them for my first trip to South America back in 1994):

I used them for flight only; I expect they know about packages as well.0 -
I went to Peru a few years ago and booked it all myself rather than get a packaged holiday.First of all, your best bet is to get a return flight to Lima. I think BA did a direct flight from Heathrow, but it's probably just as easy to get a connecting flight. I personally flew on Iberia via Madrid. With connections where baggage is checked straight through, give yourself at least 90 mins to get from one gate to another. From Lima, you can get an internal flight to Iquitos. You could collect your bags at Lima and check straight into a flight to Iquitos. I did this but went to Cusco rather than Iquitos. I would give yourself a minimum of 3 hours to collect bags, go through immigration, and check into the internal flight. Alternatively, you could spend a day in Lima and see the sights there (wouldn't recommend spending more than a day in Lima) before getting an internal flight. In terms of where to find flights, Skyscanner is your best bet, then book directly via the airlines' own website. If you're looking for a reliable agency in Peru to organise a tour in the Amazon around Iquitos, I can recommend SAS Travelhttps://www.sastravelperu.com/english/
I organised my Inca Trail trek through them and couldn't fault them. I got the recommendation from an old copy of the Lonely Planet.2 -
Did you get that from skyscanner too?jbrassy said:From Lima, you can get an internal flight to Iquitos. You could collect your bags at Lima and check straight into a flight to Iquitos.
