TV Licence repeats

I noted that in the last two weeks BBC 4 on Friday had a full complement of REPEATS... it appears this coming Friday is the same. I note also that BBC 2usual content currently is approx. 80-90% REPEATS all day.
BBC1 is close behind and if you delete Soaps and News (which is repeated daily) there is so little left that you could describe as 'Live Broadcast' material that the TV licence fee becomes a bit of a joke. It does not represent even the current definition and if compared to other various TV supply companies represents the worst case of bad value across all the services including Electricity and Gas supplied to domestic accommodation.
@Martin Lewis; Please can you check these details and highlight what a poor VFM this particularly nasty masquerade of Tax is for British residents and consumers.
The BBC gain income from foreign sales and prevent UK travellers from accessing UK content in mainland Europe. Can I also remind you that the people of Tunisia can access Sky output for very close to free. It is about time these discriminations are corrected and the BBC is consigned to dustbin status and made to compete within the market as it does NOT hold a monopoly and is NOT good for either TV programming in general OR the UK Taxpayer.

The only way the licence fee will disappear is if the BBC becomes a commercial station and has to raise revenue in the same way as ITV etc.

It also goes to fund such things as the BBC website, Iplayer, world service which are all advert free....

Also BBC radio and local radio, and Channel 4 in the Welsh language.  To be honest I think it's still pretty good value when you compare it to commercial streaming stations ...

The TV Licence is payable to receive TV broadcasts, nothing is stipulated about whether those broadcasts contain a large proportion of repeats or not.

If you don't want to pay the TV Licence, that's entirely possible if you only watch commercial catch-up and on-demand video content.

BBC Four became an archive/repeats only channel back in 2021.
With regards to BBC One, well I don't know what you're watching but I can only see one soap in today and tomorrow's schedule, the usual news broadcasts at 1, 6 and 10 and that's only two hours across the day?

Anyway your licence is to receive broadcasts, it makes no mention of the quality or content of those broadcasts.
Please feel free not to pay and make use of alternative options.

Anyway it can probably be argued a lot of content that the BBC does make/show would never exist in a commercial only environment, so things like Opera, the Proms, other high brow content (which initially is what was hoped to happen when commercial TV came along, but they soon went downmarket in pursuit of ratings)...

As for the rest of your post... Yeah you're entitled to your opinion but its probably not right to blanket say the licence fee is "poor VFM" for everybody, because it probably isn't.  Probably people who only watch the TV networks and never listen to the radio, likewise vice versa - i you only watch the TV and find out your wonga goes towards the other stuff, well you'll look at it as being bad value.  Much like the argument of "I'm never been in a leisure centre/park/library/museum/whatever, why am I paying for them in council tax?"

The whole of the BBC TV broadcast output is "live broadcast" in the context of the TVL - every second of it !

I stopped paying the TV licence at the end of 2011. The BBC was crap then, from what little I see of it on other people's tellies it's only got worse.
Whenever someone tells me "it's great value, great programmes" I check the actual listings.....
Peak time last night: The One Show
                                          EastEnders
                                  Stacey Solomon Sorts Your House
                                   Waterloo Road

Absolute trash TV. Complaining about the BBC is pointless. Cancel your licence and direct debit. Switch to free on demand streaming. Save £15 a month.👍👍

I watch two out of those programmes - not saying which ones!

Different people have different views, as you say if you think the BBc is crap then just stop watching - but check that live streaming does not also require a TVL.

He stopped watching 14 years ago, so you probably don’t need to remind him of the rules.
