Searching broadband deals which use existing phone line only.

Options
How do I exclude those broadband providers which require a new set of wires brought in from the road. I want to search for deals which only utilise the current phone line I have from the pole.

I've just had external wall insulation added and don't currently have a cable route through from the road, as this wasn't in my planning when having it done.

I tried to go with VirginMobile as it was faster and cheaper than TalkTalk but I didn't realise at the time they'd need to get extra wires into the property from the road, into a wall mounted box inside.

TIA.

Chose "part fibre" and exclude Virgin from your search on comparison sites.

However, if you try to switch you may find nobody will sell you "part fibre".

You are only putting off the inevitable, you'll need a new hole for fibre/coax eventually when the copper lines are withdrawn.

Indeed, I pulled the full fibre trigger this week and installation from start to finish was 75 minutes. They initially wanted the new router (plus wall mounted boxes) put into the study, but I insisted they install it next to the existing copper based router (FTTC). They made a very neat job. Old Sky router has now been switched off and the 900Mbs line is working great
  • I have the BT pole in my back garden and in the last 12 months they've been upgrading the wires. When I asked they said it was for the fibre upgrades. I'll have to try and get in touch to get them to define what they meant by that.

If you look at the top of the pole you may see a longish box with 8 sockets on it, that is the fibre connection point to the properties - do any of them have a connection ?.  There is then the possibility that you would not be able to take a non FTTP service as there may be a stop on new copper / part fibre lines which includes a change of provider on an existing line.
