When I Log in to bank account I always need phone

I have a Santander joint bank account with my wife.

To make it easy to log in as my wife I use a different browser, chrome.
This is so I can access my(her) Edge savings account to transfer out the interest each month.

I use Microsoft edge.

When I log in using chrome using my wife's credentials I am immediately logged in.

When I log in using my credentials on edge I always have to either log in using my mobile app to confirm it is me or get sent a code to my phone.

Why is there a difference between log in's?

The log in details are stored on each browser so all I should need to do is enter the 5 digit number.

If you are clearing cookies/history when you close the browser the login will think its a new computer every time.

    1. Windows OS has been updated this week. Just how many days ago did this start?

    2. The difference in login behaviour you're experiencing between Chrome and Edge, is most likely due to how the two browsers handle security, session management, and saved credentials, combined with how Santander treats device recognition for added security.

    You could:
    1. Check Trusted Devices:
Log in to your Santander online banking and ensure that Edge is marked as a trusted device under security settings.
    2, Check Edge Browser Settings:
Verify that Edge is set to retain cookies and saved login data for Santander
    3.
    Contact Santander Support:
If the issue persists, ask  Santander's customer service to confirm whether there are differences in security protocols applied to the two accounts.

When I log in using my credentials on edge ....
You are looking at it being a browser difference and seem to be overlooking the fact that you are using different peoples credentials.
It seem to me that it's more likely a case that your login credentials are set up to use two-factor authentication (2FA) whereas your wifes login credentials haven't been set that way yet.

With my own bank account I have 2FA set up for if I'm accessing it through a browser using name/password - it also asks for certain characters from a passphrase and/or sends a code to my phone.
However I also have the banks app on my phone which is easier - Open the app touch the fingerprint reader and I'm straight in.

When you contact Santander support don't tell them that you are logging in as your wife, things can get very awkward.

I thought I was the only one distinctly uneasy at the OP pretending to be his wife.

Things could get very inconvenient as well as awkward.

Have you tried using the Santander app? Much quicker to log on if you have a mobile with biometrics set up.

And no, it'll only allow you to access your own account.
