Charging once a day is completely normal for a smartphone. It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong.
In fact to keep the battery in good condition it's a good idea to keep the charge somewhere between 30 to 80 percent. What many people do is charge while they are getting ready in the morning and again later in the day when working.

Agreed, my phone has a setting to limit the charge to 80% and I charge it from around 40%. I do sometimes switch the phone off and charge to 100% to "condition" the battery.
Of course, limiting the charge does mean it needs charging more often, sometimes daily depending on useage.
