BT Broadband - Re-contracted but still price increase fro m31st March?

A relative has renewed their contract in the past week, thinking they'll pay the new lower monthly rate with the next rise of £3 on 31st March 2026.
They've now received an email advising them of increased charges for their broadband from the end of this month - is this normal or a mistake? They wasn't any mention of there being an increase this year and the renewal being this month.
So even if renewed on 22nd of this month, could there still be an increase? Something's not right.
Just interested to hear what others have experienced recently or in the past.

Quite common as the clause will be an increase every April. Some companies you can negotiate for it not to apply if renewing in March, but they don't have to.
You could also delay the renewal by a few weeks so it starts in April, but those few weeks may cost more than you save if the non discounted rate is higher for that period.
I have a contract that I renew at the start of April and is a 12 month contract so I don't actually pay any rise as re-contract back at the old price.1 -
Most of them are now doing , well at least the biggies. Will see 2 price hikes within 12 months April 2025 and 2026.Best getting away and choosing an ISP that doesnt do this annual price hiking, there are many.1

I would ring up and politely ask why it's going up so soon. They may be within the cooling off period and be able to cancel the renewal.
I've just renewed with Vodafone - but after 1st March they don't subject you to the 2025 increase. It is a pain that you have to be aware of these things.1 -
Check the email, it may well say "based on services on this date" & just be delayed in arriving, if renewed in March shouldn't increase1

Same should apply to re-contracts March 1st onwards. ( Has done for a few years previously)

Thanks for your replies everyone; just didn't expect a rise so soon, especially as it only mentions next rise to be next March.1

New/re-contract taken out March 1st onwards should not get a price increase until 31 March 2026.( I have re-contracted for 24 months twice over recent years on that basis, last year I phoned on 1 March and ........0 -

Would suggest re-haggling with them as I wouldn't sign a new deal only for a price increase in a matter of days / weeks, seems redundant when there are many cheaper suppliers out there offering far better prices. We only stayed out of convenience of not rolling the dice with new alt companies and having further cable run into the property.1
