Wizz air cancellation policy

Hello, I hope someone can help. no judgement please
In January we booked four flight from Liverpool to Gdansk for a family holiday this coming August.
A couple of months later we were gifted a large cash sum by a family member, for the purposes of buying a property to suit my disabilities. We don't get the money in cash, its just going straight to the solicitors for the purchase.
This was out of the blue and we totally didn't expect it, it was a welcome suprise.
The problem is, we have crunched our finances and including the cost of some new appliances that cannot be put off we cannot afford the holiday now.
We contacted Wizz air and explained the problem but the only solution was to cancel and receive only £240 out of a £800 spend back, or delay the flights to another time and pay £50 a head to transfer. So we either get back £240 and lose £680, or PAY £200 and even if the new flights are cheaper (they would be in October 2025) then we don't get the difference back and still have to pay the £50 transfer fee.
I know its in the T&C's but I feel a bit robbed. The flights for 2026 are not showing yet so we can't see or book further ahead.
Are there any other methods of changing this without losing all that money? Our kids were really excited about it and I don't want to let them down.

if you booked the standard non refundable fare then that's exactly what it is.
I was unable to take my flight to Warsaw in January - and so lost the money.
They do offer flex fares but if you didn't book that at the time then I don't hold out much hope. Getting £240 back is probably not a bad result0 -
Not much can be done with this flight.
There is 1% chances that the flight could be delayed by 3h+ so if you check in and don't fly you could get compensation.
There is <10% chance that between now and August the flight time will change and then you will be able to move it to another time / refund free of charge.
If any of your immediate family members (mother, father, wife, husband, common law partner, sister, brother, grandparent, child, grandchild) have passed away up to 30 days before the departure date, you may cancel the flight and request a refund.
That's about it.1 -
Personally I would still take the holiday and make economies on something else. Maybe postpone adapting the property?1

All flights (not just WizzAir) are non-refundable as standard unless you pay for flexi fares.
This is normal.

Can you take the holiday as planned and delay some of the house purchases? Or opt for lower cost purchases associated with the house? For example, an interim sofa (charity shop) rather than brand new?
If this were me, I know I'd always regret not taking the holiday.2
