Proof of savings scanning bank statements

Hi

We have had to take in proof of savings to the job centre before for checks and they haven’t kept a copy. They are now saying they need to scan it, can they do this? I’m worried from a financial security point of view having all account details of where savings are which anyone at the job centre and DWP can access

Thanks

I think they can do this and to be honest a statement contains limited information while access to your records I expect is recorded. They already can see basic details of accounts you hold like account number. For routine checks they ask for uploads of documents where the same information will be held and to pay you they have basic account information for at least one account.

They’ll have booked you in for an appointment as presumably you’re having issues uploading them yourself?

The Jobcentre can then either scan them or post a copy to the UC Review team.

With this type of thing uploading isn't an option, you have to go into the Jobcentre with physical documents.

It’s just strange that when you report capital it asks for the last 3 digits of the account number for security purposes but then they see all of the details.

Yes that’s right we weren’t asked to upload. I don’t understand why they need to scan copies now when they did a few months ago when we signed up. I think they are getting it mixed up with a review, to be honest they don’t seem to know what they are doing

Possibly as a layer of extra security against your account being misused by someone else.
