Not decorators caulk as the gap moves too much. We use stop gap. Its a folded plastic strip you push into the gap and the fold holds it in place. Seems expensive but it goes a long way. https://stopgaps.com/ You can easily remove it as well. It was a game changer in our old house.

Our house has some beading along the edge in 2 of our rooms - plastic in some places, wood elsewhere. It looks a bit naff in places but it's on our list of things to sort (moved here last year) The wooden beading painted to match the skirt is probably the least naff. Looks like it's fixed to the skirt to allow a bit of movement.

I think it looks ok as it is. I probably wouldn't have noticed it unless it was pointed out.

But I've had this in my old house 1920s and there's a draught comes under so I used papier mache on mine because it was pre all the other stuff. It lasted decades.
The draught also brings irrimovable dirt onto carpet put to the edges.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I ripped skirting off, patched the plaster, and squirted expanding foam in to seal the gap.
It looks like @happysellerbuyer has laminate flooring down, and skirting has been fixed after the stuff was laid. A better solution than the ugly scotia strips that some fit when putting down laminate. The gap shown in the images is not very large. Perhaps stuffing some draught excluder in would give the required flexibility.

You can get expanding foam tape - nothing to do with the expanding foam that comes in a can. It's foam tape that expands if you see what I mean!

That gap is so small I'd go with clear silicone.  If it were wider, I'd consider something like expanding foam on a roll - (self adhesive foam strip on a roll - available to suit different thicknesses - comes compressed, put in gap and it expands and closes the gap).

Why clear? There are many colours available to match either the skirting board or the floor.
