End of Virgin renewal deals?

Options
Came to the end of my contract and have been with virgin for 25yrs! I always have to go through the “I’m leaving” routine but this time it didn’t work. I was paying £43 for 300 broadband, basic tv and phone, this being increased to £77. I got them down to £66 but said no thanks I’m leaving and left it at that, fully expecting a call from retentions, which never happened. I then signed up to sky and expected retentions to get into gear, but nothing from them. Then I checked with sky that I could get 150 broadband only to be told 35mbps! As I was in the cooling off period I cancelled and rang virgin to accept their increase. BUT Openreach installed full fibre in my area a couple of days later, so I rang virgin and said I was cancelling and going to sky unless they could match the deal, they stuck to their guns at £66. Bon voyage Virgin and hello sky……300 broadband, ported telephone number, tv package with Netflix……£36! The days of virgin using my money to subsidise new customers has ended.

It's great when Virgin finally get competition in your area.   Double the price for a worse deal.   Same thing happened to my uncle - I had to spend ages every 18 months getting him a good deal.    Suddenly they would not budge from a ridiculous price.    Checked on-line - City Fibre were now available.   Faster download, symmetrical upload and a third of the price.

They’ve started putting offers on your account towards the end of the contract for some people.  2 of my relatives carried on with the same discounted price they were on. One was £18.43 for 350mb Broadband for example.  I think they still ring people, sounds like you slipped through the net somehow.  Mind you sounds like it all, worked out in the end
