It's not an uncommon scenario, I had friends win 'free holidays' with assorted companies back in the 1990s on the basis they just had to attend a short presentation- which was of course Time share. Even now I have several on my facebook account , it seems mainly the UK now with Scotland being popular where answering a brief question or paying a nominal £99 gets you a 2 night stay in a lodge somewhere as long as you attend a short presentation. 

I even saw these 'free breaks' being advertised on certain private forums as a hack - you took all the free holidays , made sure before you went that you got a specific requirement in writing i.e 'attend a 2 hour presentation' , and had a great short break, and after 2 hours in a presentation get up and leave on the basis that was what they signed up to. That only worked though if you knew you weren't the sort to cave into pressure,
