Depends on what exactly you/they mean by 'scammed', as this word is used to denote different things.

If there was demonstrable fraudulent activity then it may be that the police should be involved.

However, if it's simply a case of signing up to a timeshare under pressure and wanting out, that would be a different scenario.

    Can you clarify?

What evidence do you have that they were scammed?  Were they forced to sign up to a timeshare?  Couldn't they have simply said "no thank you"?

Given that it was years ago, and presuming there's no evidence they were forced to sign, they need to look at the contract they did sign and see if it's fair, reasonable, lawful, etc.  Presumably this was overseas?  If so, it would probably be the consumer and contract laws of whichever country the timeshare is in that would apply.

There are law firms out there purporting to be experts in timeshare disputes.  Many will take up-front sums on the promise of extricating the client from the contract.  Make sure your friends don't end up in further difficulty with that sort of thing.

Space Kitchens went into administration on 2007 and were bought by Weatherseal.
How many years have they had the time share and have they used it?

There was this in the press last year:
    https://timeshareadvicecentre.co.uk/press/20240624-low-seasons-holidays

It's not really a scam. It's just a free holiday that involves lots of very high pressure selling tactics. Only advised for those who are good at saying NO and don't buckle under pressure.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

So they've had a timeshare contract for 13 years.  What's changed that makes them want to exit the contract now?

As for the helpline, it looks legitimate and is supposedly FCA regulated.

Before engaging with anyone, your friends need to decide exactly what outcome they want, and why.

I have been told they took the free holiday. Was talked into the contract.
My opinion is that Space kitchens giving away a free UK holiday must of been fully aware. Nobody gives anything away for free.
Some people don’t see red herrings.
Some people are too trusting and naive.
While those opinions largely seem tenable, you still haven't explained how they were scammed, or do you just mean that they signed up to a timeshare arrangement and subsequently regretted it?

I think you need to get some detail from them if you want any meaningful advice.  All we know is that they won a free holiday, signed a contract for a timeshare and now want to exit.  We can't possibly say whether they were scammed, misled or coerced, and nor can we advise whether or not they can exit from the agreement.

It doesn't sound like they were misled, because presumably the holiday was free?  How they ended up signing a contract years ago is the pertinent question, along with what they've signed up to, which country's laws are applied and what the terms of the contract are.

There's no point researching other timeshare agreements.  What matters is the actual contract they've signed.

It sounds like the question is simply how to get out of the timeshare agreement, and all the stuff about kitchens and free holidays decades ago is a distraction.

It seems to be very complicated. They are dealing with it. This site isn’t free legal advice. I was just curious if there are any winners or timeshare owners on here, with a similar experience.
