Annual Travel Insurance - with existing conditions - ongoing declaration of medical

Hi,

I have an existing annual travel insurance policy with pre existing conditions (joint with my wife), and I have to declare every time I effectively have any treatment, including every doctor visit.  That's fine, but I have to call up as I can't do it online.  This is a total pain, as basically they go through every single question again with every single condition - so to let them know about something new usually takes at least an hour of waiting for them to answer, then to go through my medical history.  I'm told I have to let them know about everything.

- Can someone recommend an insurer that enables most things to be updated on the web, rather than via a call centre?
- I did hear there are insurers that offer policies where you only update at renewal (obvs declaring everything when you take the policy).  Is this true?

Many thanks.

I was previously with Insure &Go and had to go through all medical conditions every time I renewed. I am now with Avanti and was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't have to answer ALL the questions again when I renewed. I only had to add anything new..I have heard that LV Liverpool Victoria doesn't require notification of any further test results/conditions diagnosed once someone has bought the policy. It's only required when they want to renew. I haven't tried this myself but may contact them to ask about it.

When I had cover through Staysure I called them to let them know about some medical treatment my wife had received.  They advised me that there would be no additional costs (the treatment was a biopsy which was clear) but they would charge me £20 for adding the information to her medical record.

Did you contact Staysure before you had the biopsy result? I'd be inclined not to tell them if the result was clear. Unless there was a long wait involved?

We've not had to make any updates, but we have an annual policy insurancewith.com because of my husband's medical conditions. The initial screening was all online, with actual sensible questions based on his various different conditions.

We had a policy last year, worldwide for 2 of us, for only £350 premium, his medical excess was £200 - mine only the standard £75. I made a claim for a pair of my lost prescription glasses, which they paid out  -  do check you are happy with personal item limit, it was only £200 per item which we hadn't realised. They were very easy to deal with for the claim, I spoke to an actual person too. We let it lapse, so the new policy we had to declare everything again, but we have gone with them again this year.

Staysure require that they are informed of any visit to a GP or hospital, or at least they did a few years ago.  I would rather inform, although I did resent being charged £20 to update a record, than risk them refusing to pay in the event of a claim.
In answer to your question, No, I informed them once we had the result.  There was no planned travel between the biopsy and result.
