Hi all, Need some advice. I was driving on the road, going around the bend and I came upon a Scania Truck that was in the process of overtaking. The truck was on my side of the road and I had to swerve the vehicle to avoid a head on collision. This resulted in my vehicle hitting into a verge which caused the damage to my car. Should I contact the truck's insurance? Thanks

Report the matter to your insurers. Did the driver stop?

If you have details of the truck, eg. dashcam footage, then that might be useful.  But you should go through your own insurance and let them handle the matter.  They can claim against the truck's insurance if it's appropriate.

From your description are were "established and correctly proceeding", however you would need to be able to prove that. Do you have dashcam footage?

Unless you have footage or a witness it will be impossible to prove the driver of the other vehicle was at fault.

It will now be recorded as an incident so you'll have to declare it when you renew your insurance.

OP, if the truck didn't stop and you have no details of the truckers employer how do you intend to claim off their insurance? Do you have a dashcam or any witnesses/evidence? For future ref, even if you don't have a dashcam, it's worth using your phone as a front facing cam - cheap phone holder and free app, and you're set for under a tenner.

You can absolutely claim off their insurance if you can find out who it is, and convince them that you are being truthful. Otherwise, pay to repair yourself or claim off your insurance.
