Kitchen - deep narrow drawer purpose?

I suspect the main purpose of the unit was to fill an awkward gap that was too narrow for a conventional kitchen unit.It would be good for tins or jars.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.3 -

Next to ruddy useless for storing stuff in, so they just got used for tat'n'crap that could be shoved in.Replaced the kitchen, and settled on 600mm wide cupboard units and a single 900mm pan drawer. Ended up needing a 150mm wide filler, so used a bottle rack - Handy place to stash rolls of grease proof paper & baking foil.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
I have deep pans drawers and some have an extra piece that clips over the top rail, giving them solid sides. Mine are Ultima drawers from DIY Kitchens and they have the brand badge clipped into the holes you have on the side of the drawer"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.2

You might well be right. Looks like the initial purpose was for pots and pans and whoever designed/ordered this kitchen, hadn't considered the width being insufficient for them (or they needed something there to fill the space!).Used to have a couple of 300mm wide units in my old kitchen. Seems my next step is to look at getting solid sides and find a divider or organiser of some sort.0 -

Incidentally, I think "Ultima" is a reference to Ultima Furniture Systems Ltd which is the actual company behind the DIY Kitchens brand. The actual drawer boxes and hardware they use are made by Blum, I think.0 -
Came to say the same, kitchen manufacturers usually do clip on sides - I'm another that splashed out on the sides for my diykitchens order (when you have 24 drawers it quickly becomes expensive!). Might be worth reaching out to wren to see if you can get them.0

Do a google for "clip on side for kitchen pan drawers" lots of generic options come up that could work for you.0

I have a drawer like this and use it to keep bottles - cooking oil, vinegar, balsamic vinegar, worcester sauce, soy sauce etc, plus tomato puree etc lying down in the front. I've also known people to keep their herbs and spices standing up in these small drawers0

Those drawers are clearly designed for fish kettles.
What do you mean you don’t have a fish kettle?Fashion on the Ration
