Toilet- water constantly flowing into toilet bowl

Hello

Today, my upstairs toilet has started trickling water after it has been flushed. It’s trickling water at quite a fast rate.

This has never happened before to either the upstairs or downstairs one.

I THINK I have turned off the water valve for now - located under the sink basin there are two valves. The water has since stopped tricking after approx 25 mins but I’m not sure if that’s by pure luck or because of the valve. I have not pressed the flush button again as I don’t want to risk

The toilet does not stand alone and is kind of integrated into the wall with the bathroom sink

Can anyone please help

I can send videos or pictures if required

** I have just been quoted £160 on check a trade……

Probably the fill valve leaking. It could just be a bit of grit stuck in the valve, or it might be a worn out washer.
If you can gain access to the cistern, it won't be difficult to check. Replacing the fill valve might be a little more difficult depending on where the pipes are.
Should you doubt your abilities, I'd suggest using a multiskilled handyman rather than some random "plumber" on checkatrade.

Replacement cistern fill is £10-20 so the rest will be labour. Would take around 1 hour for someone professional to replace.

Don't leave it too long if you are on a water meter - it's amazing how much water you are wasting.  We had this, and it made a noticeable difference to our water bill.

Can't help you with costs, I'm afraid.  Ours was fixed by a visit to Screwfix and a handy husband.

    Pics of the toilet, please.
Yes, most likely the valves were just for the basin H&C, and the toilet just stopped trickling by itself - that's quite common, so it will trickle again for a good while if flushed again.

That's a ridiculous amount to pay to fix. I had the same, found a plumber on the nextdoor website by asking for recommendations  and paid £50

Arsenal's toilet is seemingly built in, so could be more awkward and involved. But, I agree - if it's straightforward, then a local recommended plumber will likely charge less.

Had the same issue - replacement part from Amazon cost £20 and took me (with the help of YouTube) 30 minutes to replace. Mine was easily accessible though.

In the meantime just keep a bucket of water handy and use that to flush as required.

As mentioned above, YouTube is worth looking at as I'm sure you will find plenty of videos covering this kind of situation.

I fitted one of these -> https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-bottom-entry-fill-valve-1-2-/312JN - Just £10. Nice & quiet when operating, and fully adjustable.

It might be the flush button. We had the same issue when we moved to our new house and it turned out that the plastic screw came loose slightly (so constantly pushing the valve slightly meaning that the water is flowing into the bowl). Tightening it up did the trick.

We had something similar to https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/spare-flush-button-for-metro-rimless-toilet (the long plastic screw)
