Read vs unread

I enter the competitions in the comps forum and have found that the whole category has been marked as read. I didn't do this or, if I did, I don't know how I did it. I've pressed the Mark Category read and Mark Forum read and nothing changes. Can anyone tell me how to get it back to unread?
