Royal Mail Redirection_partially failed

We moved house, change addresses everywhere & set up redirection.
Started getting letters on new address, but also many redirected letters.

Went to meet previous LL for checkout & he handed me 3 letters, dated after the redirection was set up.

We are expecting NHS appointment letter & worried it wont be redirected.
How should I raise this with Royalmail? How? Chatbot?

Do you live anywhere near your local delivery office? If so it may be worth popping in to let them know your redirection is not being actioned properly.

The previous owner of our current home has set up redirection but we still receive some of his mails every now and then. I know he has set up redirection because we actually received a mail about the redirection soon after we moved in.

I think most of the time it’s the one with shorten first name (J Smith instead of John Smith) that seems to not get redirected, although we have also received mails in his full name. Mails we received of his were never important ones, but still.

Incidentally I received redirected letters to my new address, both for 'John Smith' & 'J Smith'
    I thought its working well

Then 3 letters handed to me were 'J Smith' x 2, 'J Smith & Mrs M Joe' [Mrs M Joe (last name not the same as mine) hardly gets any letters.]

Im not sure how are joint letters redirection works, since I paid for redirection for only myself. Since my name is there as the recipient, shouldnt it be redirected too?

I need to find where the local delivery office is
Is there any email ID or phone number to raise the issue?

Should be able to find it via Services near you | Royal Mail Group Ltd

(it's your old address which is relevant - in practice it's your old postie who is meant to identify mail to be redirected when sorting the mail for their round)

Ask the new owners of your old house to open any letters and ring you if it is important ?

Did you give enough notice for the redirection?

    https://www.royalmail.com/d8/help/redirection

When should I apply for a Redirection?

You should apply as soon as possible, as we need at least five working days to arrange it. It’s best to apply three weeks before you move. This gives plenty of time to set up the Redirection.

    You can apply:

    • Up to six months before your move
    • Up to six months after you’ve moved

Please note: If you give less than five working days’ notice of your move, some of your mail might be delivered to your old address.

When I used the service I found it wasn’t 100% accurate. I rented my house out for a while and had a redirection and a couple of things still got delivered to the house over the course of a few years. Then when I moved back in and cancelled the redirection there were some instances of the post being redirected!! I reported it on the Royal Mail website but just got a ‘sorry about that’ acknowledgement.

FWIW, I wouldn't ask 'strangers' to open and read my mail - and definitely not leave them to decide which letters are important and not important.

Instead, I would just give them a note of my new address - and ask them to put a line through the address on the envelopes, and write "Please redirect to <new address>"

Or if you don't want the new occupants to know your new address, I believe you can just give them the redirection reference - and they can write something like this on the envelopes: "Please redirect as per redirection reference <nnnnnnnnn> "

Certain letters, Royal Mail will not redirect. These are benefits letters from the DWP, some letters from the council, and anything marked DNR (Do Not Redirect).
