Success story: EE £8pm 50GB
Made this account to share my recent success with getting a better deal with EE.
I was reading the MSE page on haggling, and saw the part that mentioned that I could text INFO to 85075 to find out when my contract ends.
I got an automated reply, rather than about when my contract ends, but instead about the charges for leaving EE.
EE then called me up a few days later from the disconnections department (remember, the INFO text was assumed by them to be me leaving, even though all I knew it as was "find out when your contract ends") to offer me a better deal. As the number they called from wasn't on their website's "list of numbers we call you from", I was a little concerned if it was legit or not (for reference, they called me from 07973100601 - you can trust this number to be from EE)
As it was February at the time, I didn't want to renew my contract and get a price rise immediately in April, so I asked to delay it for a few months. They called me back this week again because they were now able to waive the 2025 price rise as it is March.
My plan at the time was £17.25 for 20GB (originally £15, with a price rise in April 2024), so this is more than double the data for more than half the cost.
