We have an Electrolux large larder fridge which we bought in 1977, it still works and has only ever needed a new thermostat. We were using it as a drinks fridge but when the price of electricity shot up we decided to turn it off. It does not fit in our kitchen. That did save a good bit on the bills!
It is still sitting in the box room, we are trying to decide what to do with it. To get it out we will need to remove the door to the box room. Seems a shame to take it to the tip, but would anyone want it?0 -
You could advertise it on something like Freegle or even FaceBook market place - Free to whoever can get it out. There's always someone wanting old stuff. If you aren't already, have a look on FaceBook for local groups that let you post stuff you want to give away - we have a CRAP group (Conserving Resources Assisting People ?)
For me it's always been a cost issue. If a new FF costs £500 and I'm gonna save £20 a year, then no. We gave our old FF to the buyers of our house as it was only about 4 years old and in very good nick, new house has integrated one.0 -

You can't always tell whether a fridge need replacing, it's the best reason there is for buying a plug-in energy monitor - I recommend a Tapo p110.0 -
Mum only got rid of her freezer because it was too big for one person. The predecessor was dumped after the house flooded and I had the joy of going down there and watching it fully laden, floating around the cellar.May you find your sister soon Helli.
