Old fridge

About 10 years ago we inherited a fridge/freezer when an elderly relative died. I don't know how long she'd had it but it was certainly past its first flush of youth. I guess it's probably >25 years old by now. Unless it looses its refrigerant or the compressor dies I don't think it needs replacing. It's a bit tatty, I wouldn't have it in the kitchen, but tucked away it's fine.
Amazingly I found a label. It's a Zanussi model ZENB 2725 - anyone know when this model was in production?

My fridge is 25 years old this year, I know because I bought it when I bought my first house. As long as they work there's no reason to replace them0

When I replaced my fridge about 7 or 8 years ago the new one was more efficient and made a noticeable difference to my electricity bill.

Keep it as long as you can and enjoy it! I bought a brand new Candy fridge freezer in Nov 2022. The kitchen company messed up the order so I didn't receive it until April 2023. In Oct 2024 it stopped working properly - it was only in use for 18 months. The kitchen retailer didn't want to know. Candy would do nothing because it was only 12 months warranty. I paid an engineer to look at it which cost £60, and he said it wasn't economical to fix it.400 and something pounds, lasted 18 months. Laughable1

I bought my chest freezer in September 1983 and it's still going strong. It's been kept inside, outside and in the garage, lifted up stairs, bumped down again, left out in the snow, rain, hail. Had soil loaded up against it and travelled many miles and still it goes on. The walls are thin and the casing is rusty so I suppose it's not very efficient. It's filled with fruit from the garden so it'll see me out as I won't be growing as much in my new (to me) houseLove living in a village in the country side1

I've always kept mine until they died. But I have put a smoke alarm right by them for my own security. They are one of the main causes of fires I've read and I've actually seen 2 houses and one garage burn down locally because of a fault.Though it wasn't to do with age. Just chance.
