OP - how about some wireless buds and use you phone to play the music ?
I would never advise wearing ear buds or headphones in the car. I know deaf people can drive very well but they are used to being deaf; hearing people are not used to having a sense taken away when they drive.
For me this is a simple solution; by an aftermarket CD player (you can get a single DIN and a shelf, or a double DIN which is probably overkill for your needs but it will fill up the double gap better). A trustworthy garage will only charge a couple hundred to fit it, or there are specialist car audio centres who could also give you a quote. Much better than spending a grand on the OEM replacement which sound quality-wise will be a lot poorer anyway
I have a nissan micra 2016 and the CD player has started refusing to play. I approached our local Nissan dealer who quoted over £1000 to replace it. The car is only worth about £5000 so not really worth paying out that kind of money. I would appreciate any suggestions, I really miss playing music in my car. Thanks
1. Buy a secondhand replacement Nissan Micra stereo from eBay for about £120 2. Buy a new cheap Chinese Android head unit (which will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) for about the same money, which is designed to fit your car. It will have a fascia surround and wiring adapter to make fitment easy.
I'd forget about getting a Nissan dealer to repair this, or generic DIN or double DIN stereos these days.
