    Hello Coupon- Mad

i recently got a letter to my parents house (I'm 19 taking a gap year and working living with my parents) about a "fine" (realistically an invoice) of a vehicle that I was driving on the day the fine has been issued. The vehicle is not under my name (dad owns the vehicle) and so far we have said nothing to DPR who are acting on behalf of smart parking LTD. I have no interest in paying the 170 "fine" that they are trying to get out of me and I have seen threads on people ignoring them however my parents aren't convinced and seeing as the vehicle is under their name they have a right to worry. More details is that supposedly I overstayed my parking in a McDonald's car park even though I was inside the car and was with somebody so at least I have a witness. The car was recently purchased in November and the day of the charge is issued to me in December. The original PCN fine did NOT ARRIVE to my house therefore I had no idea of this existing until two days ago and they want me to pay the charge of 170 TODAY.

The v5c registration is in the correct name of my dads. Knowing these details what do you think is the best approach. I have the stress of my parents to pay and call them and yet online is telling me something else. I see that your really experienced and I'm sorry to bother you advice but would really help me.

I already advised you of the keyword search to do and I didn't ask which name the V5C had on it... I asked whether the ADDRESS on the V5C is up to date. Please tell us - don't guess. Get the V5C and check.

Re-read the advice already given and tell Dad how to complain.

Plus, if that's your real name I suggest you ask the Forum Team to let your change your Username.

I would go onto the live chat with drp tommorrow as if you were the person named on the letter
Tell DRP you have moved and give DRP your address as their "new address"
    Live chat on from 8.30

Sounds good as long as the person DOESN'T fall for demands to pay.  Astonishes me when people do!

Indeed. You just say to who ever it is on the chat. Ie 'mark' when they say £170. Is outstanding. You just say thanks for the information just ask them to confirm address is updated and end the chat.
  • Update I’ve ignored the letter
to answer the question yes the address is correct on the v5c. Weird as to how I didn’t get the first pcn tho. Will let you all know if anything else happens thanks

Why is Dad ignoring it and not doing the complaint seen in the forum search results you get when searching for the keywords I provided?

Most other people have had Smart Parking cases cancelled by complaining to Smart then to the BPA, about the first letter being a DR Plus demand.

As I said on page one, in the event that the V5C address is correct, just search the forum for:

    Smart Parking complain debt recovery

Works every time. Smart and DR Plus play this game a lot.

Is it all that weird? They "forget" to post one and suddenly their invoice has jumped from £60 (if it was paid immediately) to £170.

I have no doubt some PPCs do this.

The search shows that Smart & DR Plus do this (they admitted it to the BPA and implied it was a mistake they'd addressed).

This is why the OP needs to just read search results & get Dad to copy a complaint that worked before. Dozens of similar threads.

They might call it a mistake. I call it fraud 😉
  • Update, just received this in the post today. I have no idea what to do now. They are saying now I don’t have the right to appeal anymore and says eligible for legal action. What do I do I need help asap thanks.
