May I join, but from next month? At that point I’m starting a decluttering project, and I know toiletries are one of the first things I need to tackle.

There is a point to this post though! Before Xmas I had an allergic reaction to salon hairspray and while my face is mostly better, I definitely need a product with sunscreen every time I leave the house this year. So on Monday I have an appointment at a beauty counter. I’m hoping that I will leave knowing my skin tone/shade, and they’ll give me some samples to test.

I do still have a drawerful of makeup from pre-pandemic days, when I wore makeup for work. It never seemed to look right on Teams calls so I stopped wearing any (I’m hoping that the makeup artist will help me understand why). But maybe with a bit of shade mixing, I could use it up. The question is, how dangerous would that be - are there some types of makeup you’d definitely throw away?
    Welcome

Powders tend to be ok to keep, as they are dry and don't harbour bacteria.

I'd definitely get rid of anything 'wet' that goes near your eyes, so mascara and liquid eyeliners. Pencils aren't too bad as you can sharpen them which effectively makes them new again.

Use your eyes and nose on anything else, if it looks or smells remotely funny then it's best to chuck it away.

But as you have had a reaction and perhaps a sensitive face now, it might be better to start from scratch and not use anything old (as the pandenic started 5 years ago).

Feel free to join now, as there is no time like the present!
Thank you, I think you’re right.

I’m going to make a fresh start with foundations and mascaras. Then when I
decide which ones I want to keep I can sharpen/trim pencils and take a big slice off any lip and cheek stains/lipsticks.

My first out of the month!

Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical  body cream. This was a long haul job - not because I don't like it, it's actually one of my all time favourites. I'm just really bad at applying body lotion!

Not opened anything new to replace it with, as I already have a Beauty Pie body cream called Orris Florentina open.
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without

Morning everyone, thanks for the new thread @Clutterbugand welcome to the newbies!

Had a bit of a slower start to March compared to the madness of UU's in February:

Garnier Micellar Water with Oil - the yellow one, WBA, love this and have a replacement ready to go.

Bayliss & Harding Bath Salts - these were fine, not as good as regular epsom salts but they smelt pretty good

Lush Sweet Pudding Ballistic - loved this, smelt amazing and didn't stain the bath bright pink 🤣  Have one more bath ballistic to use and then I'm out of lush stuff.  Do have some Elemis bubble bath that I picked up in the outlet to use next - I will not save it for best, I will use it alongside the matching body oil to actually get the benefit from my products.

UU  ELF Concealer and OPI Mylar Dreams mini bottle.

NARS Decatur - hit pan this morning.

In advance of my beauty counter visit I’ve had a first pass at the makeup drawer. I know what the definite gaps are now. I’ve also swatched a few products. It’s made me realise that with some it’s not the colour I don’t like, but how heavy the formulation is.

TA - I thought these were spluttering but they seem to have dried up
    YSL Touche Eclat
    Benefit They’re Real Mascara
    No 7 Mascara

    TA - these were NBI
Body Shop Lipstick in a really non-flattering shade
No7 lip gloss, ditto and I really disliked its stickiness

I can decide on UUs when I know what’s IN.

I’ve also washed my makeup brushes with the cleaner I use for my watercolour brushes. Much more effective than plain soap!
Here to confess my INs (see what I did there?) before I work out my UUs and TAs at the weekend

IN: Trinny London products colour matched at the counter
BFF SPF30 Skin Perfector (replaces the pre-pandemic foundations I need to TA)
BFF Eye Serum Concealer (replaces YSL Touche Eclat TA)
Eye2Eye in a matte neutral tan
Lip2Cheek in a matte soft neutral peach

    Also IN:
Clinique Lash Power Mascara (replaces TA mascaras)
    Clinique Almost Lipstick Black Honey

With these I can now do a no-makeup look, to ease back into wearing some. And trial the eye/cheek/lip makeup I already have that I can UU.

I’ll do my time on the naughty step for the Almost Lipstick!

I have one IN for skincare - The Ordinary 5% Lactic Acid (replaces more harsh acids TA after my allergic reaction, as a precaution) and one Splutterer - The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser (I’ve aleady started a TO Glycolipid Cream Cleanser)

    Another use up

Hydr8 B5 Intense by Medik8 - a very good hydrating serum. I only had this via a Caroline Hirons kit, would not pay the £59 pricetag.

2 more purchases thanks to some dopamine shopping in TKMaxx
Age Benefit Melting Cleansing Elixir by Gatineau
    Citylife Facial Mist by Oskia

These will go into my use next bag as they could be older stock
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without

I have discovered the secret to not spending all your money on makeup n toiletries- spend it all on your new rescue dog instead!  :D  Meet Sybil, she's a 1 yrs old lurcher (greyhound x saluki cross) who we took home from Battersea Old Windsor last Sunday!

Oh Sybil is gorgeous @Clutterbug07 - hope she's settling in well with her new family.

Have a few more UU's to report

Garnier Invisible Serum SPF 50 - WBA and already did (see IN's below)

Sol de Janeiro Cheriosa 62 - this was one of the mini ones that I got in a travel kit last year.  The scent grew on me but still was a little too sweet for my liking.  Have replaced with a mini M&S one that I got in the advent calendar at Christmas.

Lush Snow Drift Bath Bomb - WBA, love the scent of this and had to pick it up again this year when I saw it was available again.

Morrisons Baby Shampoo - WBA, use this for washing makeup brushes.  Have replaced with the same.

Lush Intergalactic Body Scrub - WNBA, wasn't scrubby enough for me.  Only picked it up when we were going through the bathroom renovation and I couldn't get to my ingredients to make my own one again.  Have now located the oils etc. so will be making up a batch at the weekend.

Wild Deodorant - WBA, already have, use it as my day to day deo.

    And the IN's

Garnier Invisible Serum SPF 50  - bought to replace the one I used up

SKIN1004 Madagascan Centella SPF 50 - ordered this when I knew I was getting to the end of the Garnier one but it didn't arrive in time.

Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum - bought this to replace the one I finished last month but think the Byoma one is better for my skin, so will use this up and then switch back to the Byoma exclusively

Beauty of Joseon Eye Revive Serum - almost finished the one I'm currently using and love it.

We're going away for a few days and I've managed to pack most of my samples to use up so should have a few more empties to declare next week!
