Morning all. Today it's grey, miserable and set to be raining all day. Say no more.
Yesterday I got the living room windows cleaned and the net curtains washed but after that the day felt a bit like wading through treacle. First off, an unsolicited scam phone call about insulation - annoying but soon dealt with.
Next, a knock at the door by a young man from my energy supplier about the Warm Home Discount - yes, he was genuine - who insisted that everyone is eligible. Er, no they're not and this year's scheme has closed anyway. He looked as if he should still have been in school and athought popped into my head that he'd been sent out door knocking to get him out of the office.
Second knock at the door, this time the roofing contractors that the council uses. They didn't give me much time to answer the door and I had to chase after them before they drove off. They've been up on the roof, didn't find anything wrong but have applied sealant around the drain bit that takes rainwater away from the roof down the waste pipe "as a precaution" in the hope that stops the water ingress. Now it's a waiting game to see if that does the trick, which I doubt it will.
So far, I've had visits from a surveyor, builder, plumber (with joiner in tow) and roofers. All turned up without making an appointment first (good job I've been in every time) and none of them knows exactly what's wrong but agree with me it's probably something amiss in the void containing the soil stack/pipes etc that needs investigating. A job of last resort because it's complicated, time consuming, messy and expensive - no wonder no-one wants to take ownership - but if it needs doing, then it needs doing.I'm tempted to turn off my phone and not answer the door at all! And breathe.
I've no idea what job(s) I'm going to do today, I might just stick a pin the To Do list - it's certainly long enough! Tea tonight is a h/m salmon fishcake, braised red cabbage and a baked potato, all c/o the freezer.
@Ruby - Your good nature is being taken advantage of, I hope the SW can help.
@bella - Congratulations on the safe arrival of your new grandson Thomas.
@dp1 - Funerals are always stressful, I hope all goes well. Lovely to hear LO seems to be making progress and is enjoying London. As I hope you will too.
Right, time for another cuppa while I contemplate what to do first. Enjoy the day, stay dry if you're in a wet area (I think that's most of us) and have a hug if that's what you need. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.10 -
Congratulations Bella ,we posted at the same time!9

Morning all...wasn't here yesterday thanks to no sleep at all and a cold the night before [ still got the cold but I was so tired I zonked out last night] so I spent it in a fugue state not knowing what the fudge was going on...Today is better, so I'll make a quiche later on and mark up what bit of wood is going to be cut where for the cat box and my stand. It's raining heavily so won't be cutting them today but I can get them ready at least. I think it might be time for a downstairs tidy up as well...stuff shifting! to be fair, a lot of it is DIY stuff that we'll be needing before long...TA, I can see how you got a bit incandescent...I'd write a complaint to the surgery and the pharmacist. It's supposed ot be a seamless process but it isn't is it...Ruby, I'd maybe mention the small claims court to her before long and see if that shifts her because the bigger the amount the less likely she is to pay in one go. Not sure I'm on board with mehefin beating up though
Bella, congrats! Yorkslass, sounds busy though
one step closer to it being fixed maybe...Hope everyone is doing well, take care all..

Hello all, gosh it feels quite cold here again and we have more rain too 😒
We got Dad sorted out yesterday and also ordered him a new tv. He wanted a 50" as his eyesight has deteriorated but he only "lives" in a box room so the TV will dominate one wall, it'll be like sitting right next to a cinema screen for us ! Anyway it's coming on Saturday so we'll have to go and set it up, I can foresee lots of calls asking Mr Fix It how to use the remote !
Today I have stripped the bed and the bedding is dancing in the wm, it'll have to dry indoors though. Later I'll remake the bed then throw the hoover around upstairs.
TA and RedRuby hope you get things sorted asap.
Bella congratulations on the new baby, hope Thomas and Mum are well.
taff sorry you have a rotten cold, I hope it passes quickly.
dp1 hope the funeral goes as well as possible.
Hugs to all

Morning from Mehefinland
I can assure I'm not doing any beating up, it did make me chuckle too. Just getting on with things in this so changeable weather we are all having. Spent an hour in the greenhouse yesterday just sorting and clearing out. Really want to get some seeds underway, but still a bit too chilly. My pelargoniums are having mixed fortunes and some look decidedly 'sick'. If they go there are always some around to replace them later - I have never had any luck taking cuttings. Mind you this peat free compost we have to use these days is an abortion - never seen so much junk in a mix.
Covering for the community council clerk again after she resigned and we look for a new one. Workload has been parcelled out to various people - it doesn't really work, and I think I would rather do it all myself. Then, if I do that, they will never learn how time consuming, and difficult a job it can be. Catch 22!
Spent a lot of time trying to get tradesmen to come and quote for work urgently needed doing on the community building, which is let as a nursery. One roofer today, another due later. Also the fire extinguisher guy, and a service on our CCTV (which isn't working) - so a busy day.
Glad to hear of new life coming into the world and our virtual family. Speaking of which I heard my first lamb of the season this morning - couldn't see it, but it's such a plaintive sound you have to feel for them, especially in the downpours we have had today. Sun is out now though. The farmer will stick ewe and lamb in his trailer and take to the barn no doubt - he seems to be back and for a lot at the moment so I expect he is in the throws of it.
Hugs and spoons as always - keep the poodles warm
Mehefin aka Derek

@-taff - I'm trying to be optimistic and think yes, it's one step nearer, but this is the stage I got to 6 years ago when they put the brakes on and didn't look at the soil stack void (cost etc). I think I've been more than patient and have always bent over backwards to give access when needed, never refused appointments etc. Right now, I feel as if I'm girding my loins for a battle, not a feeling that sits well with me. As TA mentioned yesterday, I'm sure they think I'm a dotty old bird who doesn't know what she's talking about. We'll see about that! Can you tell I'm still annoyed?
@mehefin - You're keeping yourself busy! Yes, it's a Catch 22 alright and it begs the question of why the original post-holder resigned.
Healing thoughts to the many on here struggling with colds and sniffles right now. I'm off out for a walk - the sun is shining and it's a shame to waste it. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9
