Where do I go from here with my energy bills?

I have been with E.on Next for almost a year. Every month I have to ring their call centre to ask them to generate a statement. They don't automatically bill me and they don't take the money out of my account unless I ask. I have begged and pleaded, I have made a formal complaint but nothing happens. I go to my account and there is no bill. I am 76 years old and I don't think I should have to worry about this any more. I've had promise after promise that this will be sorted out. Various people said they would check on 18th February and make sure the meter had been read and a statement generated. Nothing has happened. Where do I go from here? It's pointless complaining as I only get empty promises. At the moment I feel inclined to simply work out my own bills and make sure there is enough money to cover them.

Put a formal complaint in and push for compensation and then leave for someone else.1

I've just tried to get a quote from Scottish Power. I put in my postcode and they said they can't give me a quote. I'm losing the will to live. I just want a reading through my smart meter and a bill every month like everyone else.

Hmmm
Do you have a smart phone or tablet?
Use the EoN app or the Bright App or the Hugo App to see the 30 minute smart meter readings...
That will demonstrate if the DCC can read the meter(s) or, possibly not.
My Smart Meter gets read and a variable DD taken by EoN with no issue.
I've even moved onto their Drive tariff this week as we have bought a BEV and that generated another statement/bill automatically.
One can also enter your own meter readings and make manual payments via the online account (with non-EV tariffs at least)/0 -

I tried a formal complaint and they downgraded it to a service problem.

I don't have the app, but I have sent manual readings when the smart meter hasn't been read. It didn't generate a statement. I pay a fixed amount every month via a DD. That's the way I want it.

Well a fixed monthly DD is pay a guesstimate and have a debit/credit balance.... no real need for monthly statement to be generated as it all should work out in the 'wash' when one is generated and you can / will have your own records to cross-calculate the bills when a Statement is eventually produced.
But EoN with fixed DD and the Covid payments and stuff is why I moved to Variable DD which works well on dumb and smart meters if one can afford to do it... EoN had many hundreds of 'my' money that I could have used for buying Kerosene Oil at that time!
IIRC when I submitted meter reads with a fixed DD it didn't always produce a Statement either (but its a good few years ago now).
Do Sign up for one of the Apps (Bright or Hugo) to see your Smart Meter Readings are being delivered via the DCC and prove that EoN have no excuse to not receive them, too!

I'm paying them quite a lot of money every month. I would like to have a bill. If you purchase anything else you expect to know how exactly much it costs. It's actually a legal requirement to receive a bill twice a year and Ofgem says customers with online management should receive a bill every quarter.
